Getting started with Zego Sense

Set up the Zego app properly and understand how your driver rating works.

Turn on three settings

Zego Sense uses your phone's built-in sensors, so there's no black box to fit in your car. It works quietly in the background while you drive. If any of these settings is off, Sense can't record your trips.

On iPhone:

  • Location: set to "Always Allow", with Precise Location switched on

  • Motion & Fitness: switched on

  • Background App Refresh: switched on

On Android: these settings have different names. Follow our Android permissions guide to switch them on.

Bonus: connect your car's Bluetooth to the app for even more accurate trip data.

No driver rating yet? That's normal

Sense needs a baseline before it can give you your first driver rating. Nothing's wrong. We're just getting to know your driving.

Keep driving as normal. Your driver rating will appear once we've collected enough trips.

How your driver rating is worked out

  1. Open the Zego app and tap Insights.

  2. Your driving habits shape your driver rating, including speeding, braking and rest.

  3. Insights also shows you exactly what's affecting your driver rating and how to improve it.

Pro tip: keep your phone secure while driving. If it's loose on the seat, it can slide around, and that movement can look like harsh braking or cornering even when your driving is spot on.
