How does Sense affect my insurance premium?

Sense works by offering better drivers cheaper monthly premiums.

Good drivers can expect up to 17% off their monthly cover — on top of the 15% you get just for taking out a Sense policy.

In addition to this, your renewal email will also let you know how much you've saved!*

*Please note: any projected savings are based on the cost of your renewal without the Zego Sense saving. This is not based on savings compared to your current or previous policy.

How accurate is the Zego Sense app?

Our app works by sensing your driving behaviours over time. So over the full length of your policy, it builds a clear understanding of how safely you drive.

It takes time to build this understanding, so we don’t punish you if you accidentally take a sharp corner or have to brake harshly on a rare occasion.

To keep your score as accurate as possible, try to store your phone in a holder or mount in your car, and avoid using your phone while you drive. This reduces any unwanted movement during your trip.

What does Zego do with Sense data?

The Sense app uses location and motion data from your phone’s inbuilt sensors.

It picks up on the frequency of factors like harsh braking, aggressive acceleration and sharp cornering, and uses this data to create your driver score on a rolling basis.

The Zego Sense app says it’s tracking me but I’m not driving - what’s going on?

Sense gets to know your driving behaviours and movements over time. It will quickly learn the difference between when you’re driving and when you’re a passenger on a bus, train or your friend’s car.

So don’t worry, your score will be a reflection of your driving, and no one else’s.

Will the Zego Sense app drain my phone battery?

No. We know you need your phone for work, so we’ve designed the Zego Sense App to work in the background and use less of your phone’s battery power.

Why does my score barely move?

Annual users have a 365-day look back window, which means their scores change more gradually.

In contrast, 30-day users have a shorter look back period, so their scores can fluctuate more frequently.

Why do I get notifications when I’m not driving?

The app begins to work whenever it senses that you’re travelling in a vehicle. So, you might get a message from your device to say that Sense is working in the background, even if you’re on a train or in someone else’s car.

That’s completely normal. The app knows when you’re driving and when you’re not. So, only trips that you have actually driven will count towards your score.

Do I have the option to classify a trip as a 'Passenger Trip' in the Zego Sense app?

At the moment, no. But you can contact us to review a passenger trip.

We'll need to know the specific date and time, and where you were a passenger (for example, on a train) so that we can review it. If we can clearly see a difference in the driving behaviour, we'll ignore the trip.

Once we've done this, the next day your driver score will be recalculated.
