How do I change my level of cover?
Updated over a week ago

Depending on the type of policy you have, you may be able to change your level of cover. Below provides an explanation of the options available to you.

If you'd like an explanation of each level of cover, have a read of this guide.

Pay-as-you-go

If you have pay-as-you-go cover, we are unable to change your level of cover.

  • If you have a scooter insured on pay-as-you-go, we only provide third party only cover.

  • If you have a car insured on pay-as-you-go, then your level of cover matches your underlying social, domestic and pleasure (SD&P) cover. For example, if your SD&P cover is comprehensive, your pay-as-you-go cover is also comprehensive. Or if your SD&P cover is third party only, your pay-as-you-go cover is also third party only.

If you want to change your level of cover on your Zego insurance, you’ll need to set up a new 30 day or annual policy and cancel your pay-as-you-go cover. This will provide you with both hire & reward cover and social, domestic and pleasure cover, so you'll no longer need separate SD&P cover.

30-day and annual policies

If you have Zego Van insurance or Personal Car insurance, we cannot change your level of cover as we only provide comprehensive cover.

If you have a taxi, car delivery or scooter delivery insurance, we may be able to provide you with a different level of cover, however we can't change the level of cover of an active policy.

This means that if you’d like to change your existing cover to fully comprehensive or third party only, you’ll need to cancel your cover and set up a new policy. Any relevant cancellation charges would apply when doing this.

The best time to make this change is when your policy is due for renewal. This would avoid any cancellation charges. Just let us know that you’d like to make a change when you want to renew your policy.
