Zego Sense app troubleshooting - How to turn on permissions (Apple)

This article is a step-by-step guide to help you turn on permissions for the Zego Sense app to work.

To use Zego Sense, you must turn on three permissions: Background App Refresh, Location and Motion & Fitness. These settings help us see how you’re driving, keep the app running in the background when you’re on the road, and give you an accurate driver score.

If you're looking for a quick guide on where to find these settings and how to turn them on, simply follow the steps below. If the option appears greyed out, don’t worry, this can usually be fixed with a few extra steps — we’ve included instructions for each setting, too!

Background App Refresh

How to turn on Background App Refresh in iPhone settings

  1. First, open the Zego Sense app in your phone settings.

  2. Switch on ‘Background App Refresh’.

If you’re having trouble turning on your Background App Refresh and it appears greyed out in the Zego Sense app settings like this image, follow these steps below and we’ll show you how to turn it on.

  1. In your phone settings, tap the ‘General’ button to access a list of settings.

  2. Then, select ‘Background App Refresh’ from the list of settings.

  3. Tap the Background App Refresh button at the top of the next page (this will be set as ‘Off’).

  4. Select ‘Wi-Fi & Mobile Data’. This allows your phone to keep Zego Sense running in the background while you’re out on the road.

  5. Head back to the Zego Sense app settings and check that Background App Refresh is also turned on there as well (like the image below).

Location

How to turn on your Location in iPhone settings

  1. First, open the Zego Sense app in your phone settings.

  2. Next, tap the ‘Location’ button (for Zego Sense to monitor your location data, this needs to be set to ‘Always’. If it isn’t set to ‘Always’ follow the next step).

  3. Select ‘Always’ and switch on ‘Precise Location’. This allows us to use your specific location and give you a more accurate driver score.

If you’re having trouble turning on your Location, and it appears greyed out in the Zego Sense app settings like this image, follow these steps and we’ll show you how to turn it on.

  1. In your phone settings, tap the ‘Privacy & Security’ button to access a list of settings.

  2. Then, select ‘Location Services’ at the top of the screen from the list of options (this will be set as ‘Off’).

  3. Tap ‘Location Services’ to turn it on.

  4. Head back to the Zego Sense app settings and make sure it’s turned on there, too.

  5. Make sure you select ‘Always’ and switch on ‘Precise Location’. This allows us to use your specific location and give you a more accurate driver score.


Motion & Fitness

How to turn on Motion & Fitness in iPhone settings

  1. First, open the Zego Sense app in your phone settings.

  2. Switch on ‘Motion & Fitness’.

If you’re having trouble turning on your Motion & Fitness and it appears greyed out in the Zego Sense app settings like this image, follow these steps and we’ll show you how to turn it on.

  1. In your phone settings, tap the ‘Privacy & Security’ button to access a list of settings.

  2. Then, select ‘Motion & Fitness’ from the list of options.

  3. Tap ‘Fitness Tracking’ to turn it on.

  4. Head back to the Zego Sense app settings and make sure it’s turned on there, too.
