Why have I built up less NCD than I expected?

Updated over a month ago

To build up a full year of No Claims Discount, you need to have completed 12 consecutive months of cover (either 1 annual or 12 30 day policies). If the number of years shown on your proof of NCD isn't as high as you expected it to be, one of these reasons may explain why.

  • The request for your proof NCD was made before you received your renewal quote

If you don't wait until your renewal window, you won’t get the extra year of NCD. Please wait until they get their renewal before making your request for proof.

  • You haven’t provided us with the proof of NCD from their previous provider

If this happens, we can only issue NCD accrued from your cover with Zego.

  • You have had a gap in cover of more than 72 hours (30 day policies only)

If you have 30 day cover, you need 12 consecutive policies to gain a year of NCD. However, any gaps in cover of more than 72 hours will stop your NCD year from building, meaning that the year will start again from the next policy. If this happens, we can only issue proof of NCD based on any full years worth of cover from before and after the gap

  • You have made a fault claim without NCD Protection

Any fault claims made against your policy will reduce the number of years of NCD you have built up. You can find out more about NCD Protection here.

  • You had NCD Protection and you made a fault claim costing more than £45,000

If the value of a fault claim exceeds £45,000, your NCD will reduce by 2 years with NCD Protection. You can find out more about NCD Protection here.
