Frequently asked questions

What happens if I cancel my Direct Debit?

It's important that you don't simply cancel your Direct Debit. This will not cancel your insurance policy and may put you into arrears with us.

If you want to stop your monthly payments, please contact us so that we can provide you with the right support.

I want to pay off the rest of my monthly payments now. Can I do that?

Yes! However in this instance, please do not settle your credit agreement directly with Premium Credit. We need to make sure that our records are up to date and we need to know that we are not expecting any more payments from you.

If you'd like to pay off your credit agreement, just get in touch with us and we'll arrange it for you.

What happens if I miss a payment?

If you miss a payment for any reason, please contact Premium Credit to make the missing payment as soon as possible. You can use Prima to do this!

If you don't do anything, your credit agreement will be cancelled, PCL will charge a £25 default fee, and you'll be required to pay the rest of your monthly instalments to us in a lump sum to continue your cover.

If this ever happens, we'll send you an email to let you know. But, if you are unable to pay the remaining balance, or if we do not hear from you, you'll be given 7 days notice before we cancel your policy.

To make sure this doesn't happen, it's best to make sure you always have sufficient funds to cover your monthly payments, and that you keep your details up to date with Premium Credit.

When is my first instalment taken?

If you are purchasing a new policy, the date of your first payment will be confirmed when you receive the credit agreement from PCL.

If you are renewing your policy, the first payment will be taken during the first 10 days of the policy, and most likely on the same day the new policy starts. Again, this will be confirmed on your credit agreement.

Is a credit check carried out for new credit agreements?

Yes. You will be subject to credit and anti-money laundering checks. For this, PCL may use a reference agency that leaves a search record or other information about you which can be seen by third parties.

When might a credit agreement get cancelled?

  • If you miss one or more payments

  • If you cancel your Direct Debit

  • If your bank details are invalid

  • If you do not pass the PCL credit checks

What happens if my credit agreement is cancelled?

In this scenario, you'll be required to pay the full cost of your insurance up front. If you are unable to do this, we'll need to cancel your policy.

What happens to my payments after I make a change to my policy?

If you make a change that results in an additional cost or a refund, PCL will recalculate the remaining payments. We'll let you know what the new payment amounts will be when you are making the change.

If you've already paid all of your monthly instalments, the additional charge/refund will apply immediately.

Can I set up a Direct Debit using another person's bank details?

No, we cannot do this. The bank account must be in the name of the policyholder.

Are there any penalty fees charged with my credit agreement?

A fee of £25 may be charged by PCL in the following circumstances:

  • If you do not sign the credit agreement within the time frame given by Premium Credit Limited.

  • If you default on your credit agreement.

How do I adjust my payment card details for my Direct Debit?

If you are required to update your payment card details, then you do not have a credit agreement with PCL. All credit agreements use Direct Debit payments that are taken using your bank details, not a credit or debit card.

If you pay using a credit or debit card and you pay monthly, then you have a 30 day policy that is set to auto-renew every month, not an annual policy.

To update your payment card details, follow this guide.
